Scone Palace Day Tour from Glasgow
Escape the city of Glasgow and follow in the footsteps of Macbeth, Alexander III, Robert the Bruce and Prince James Edward Stuart (the Old Pretender), to the historical enthroning and crowning location at Scone Palace in Perthshire, Scotland.
Pause for a time on Moot Hill, where many famous Scots were crowned on The Stone of Scone, or known to many as The Stone of Destiny. Marvel at the mysteries surrounding this sacred stone and immerse yourself in the magical surroundings where you stand.
Scone Palace has a well-deserved, 5 Star Visitor attraction rating. The Gothic Palace is the family home of the Murrays, the Earls of Mansfield. The Palace is open to visitors, who can take a tour through the eloquent well-furnished palatial rooms on the lower ground floor.
Interesting Fact: The Long Gallery, once the longest room in Scotland, is where Charles II proceeded to his coronation on Moot Hill. It is also here, that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert witnessed an indoor curling exhibition on the polished oak and oak marquetry floor.
You may also encounter a peacock or two as you meander through the Gardens of Scone. Enjoy a stroll along the Kings’ Walk, the 3rd Earl’s Walk, the Friar’s Den Walk or the Memorial Walk.

Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel Day Out from Glasgow
The Kelpies are the largest equine sculptures in the world, and they can be found in the Helix Park, situated 26 miles away from Glasgow.
The breath-taking 30 metre tall horse-head sculptures, dominate the local skyline, and are a tribute to the mighty Clydesdale horses that pulled freight barges along the Forth and Clyde Canal in the nineteenth century.
I hear you ask, “So what are Kelpies?”
In Scottish mythology, a Kelpie, or Water Kelpie, is the Scots name given to a shape-shifting water spirit.
Beware!!! Do not ever attempt to touch a Kelpie or get on one.
If you decide not to take heed… then your flesh will bind on to the Kelpie, and will whisk you away to either drown, or devour you.
Did you know: A Kelpie’s mane drips with water, even when it is on dry land.
If a Kelpie devours someone, it will throw his or her entrails onto dry land for everyone to find.
Most sightings of Kelpies take place at Loch Ness.
At Kilted Piper Tours we thoroughly recommend a day trip out of the city of Glasgow to see these amazing equine sculptures.
After a local pub lunch we take the short journey to the world’s first and only rotating boatlift, the Falkirk Wheel, which can also be found in the Helix Park.
This extraordinary feat of modern engineering is not to be missed. It connects the Union Canal and the Forth and Clyde Canal.
The Falkirk Wheel solves the problem of boats navigating through eleven locks to climb or descend the 115-foot gap. This amazing boatlift, has slashed the gruelling time frame of one day down to 30 minutes to pass from one canal to the other.
It is claimed that it is designed to be inspired by: a Celtic double-headed spear, the ribcage of a whale and the spine of a fish.
The wheel is 35 metres tall and uses one and a half kWh of energy to turn it, the same amount of energy it would take to boil eight household kettles.
The Falkirk wheel has a fabulous visitor centre, where you can embark on a 1-hour boat ride on the Antonine or Archimedes boats.
